KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia, who lost to South Korea in the Thai King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Championship in Chiang Mai last Saturday, continue to dream of winning a gold medal at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

National team manager Datuk Awang Sham Amit said the 1-2 defeat to South Korea would not derail the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Association’s gold medal target.

“Players who were fielded against South Korea during the semi-final match were not the first choice players.

“We decided to give all the 21 players a chance to see their capabilities,” said Awang who is also the association’s vice-president.

“Though South Korea beat us, it does not mean that they (Korea) are a great team and difficult to beat,” he said when contacted.

At 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Malaysia won two silver and a bronze medal. — Bernama
