Secure refunds for the landowners in seven days — MP

KUCHING: DAP Sarawak secretary Chong Chieng Jen has challenged SUPP to get the refund for landowners who had overpaid their land renewal premiums in a week’s time.

Chong was responding to SUPP president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan’s statement on Wednesday that the party would help those who had the confidence and trust in them (SUPP) to appeal to the relevant authorities for the refund.

“For those who appeal through SUPP, and who believed that the party is an effective partner of BN (Barisan Nasional), we will make sure that their voices will be heard. SUPP believes in delivering the goods to the people and not just shouting only,” Dr Chan said.

However, he added that there was no guarantee that the refund would be granted.

Chong, the Bandar Kuching MP, said a ruling government should not apply double standards for any policy they were implementing. They should instead be fair to everyone, even though a citizen was not the supporter of the ruling party.

“Dr Chan, as a deputy chief minister, should not use the refund policy as a tool to garner support from the people. He should not also try to threaten the people. Therefore, I wish to challenge SUPP and Dr Chan to get the refund for landowners who had sought their help in seven days,” he said.

Speaking at the new conference here, Chong stressed that since Dr Chan had such confidence, they should be able to get the refund within a week.

“I hope SUPP would not only announce the good news during campaigning for the next state election,” he said.

To date, SUPP had received 779 appeal letters from landowners, mostly from Kenyalang Park area.
