KOTA KINABALU: The Toh Puan Dayang Masuyah Women Development Gallery that showcases Sabahan women’s achievements was officially opened yesterday.

Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Hajah Azizah Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohd Dun said the two-level gallery at Wisma Wanita was named after Head of State’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Seri Panglima Hajah Dayang Masuyah Awang Japar to recognize her role and contribution to the state, and to serve as the symbol of women’s success.

Masuyah was the guest-of-honour at the opening ceremony.

Azizah said the reference centre would enhance the facilities and information at Wisma Wanita, which was in line with its identity to be the one stop centre for women development.

“The gallery shows the progress of women in the development of the state and country as well as their contributions in various fields.

“Based on the records in the gallery, it was clear that women have recorded many proud moments of success.”

Azizah added that the government also recognized women’s capabilities through policies such as National Women Policy, which enabled women to be actively involved in the country’s development.

The gallery encompasses the development of women over the years – success stories, women leaders, statistics, issues, paintings by women, and women’s contributions in non-profit organizations.

Daily Express reporter Mary Chin was also recognized for her 13-series article contribution to the gallery during the launch.

“The collection of materials on the development of women and their achievements will serve as a motivator to the younger generation to follow their footsteps,”Azizah added.

In addition, Azizah expressed her gratitude towards the Sabah Women Affairs Department (JHEWA), State Museum Department and NGOs that have contributed materials for the gallery.

Also present were permanent secretary to the Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Datuk Asnimar Sukardi, JHEWA director Siti Sapoo, State deputy secretary Datuk Maznah Abd Ghani, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin, Datin Seri Panglima Hajah Siti Jauyah, and the first Head of State’s wife Toh Puan Hajah Rahimah Stephens.
