Five journalists receive State awards

KOTA KINABALU:  Five members of the media were honoured at the State Awards investiture held in conjunction with the Head of State Tun Ahmadshah’s 64th birthday, yesterday.

Leading the list of honoured media fraternity was New Straits Times Press regional head cum Sabah Journalists Association president, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, who was appointed as Justice of Peace.

The Borneo Post Area Operations Manager, Phyllis Wong Yang Yong, was conferred the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), while her colleague senior reporter Nancy Lai and two others, New Straits Times photographer Edmund Samunting and TV3’s cameraman Mohd Yazzer Mahmun were awarded the Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK).

A total of 770 State Award recipients were honoured this year, which is an increase of 82 people compared to last year’s 688 recipients.
