Illegal immigrants arrested for various crimes

JOHOR BAHARU: Police arrested 41 illegal immigrants in the city and Nusajaya from last Thursday until Monday, for suspected involvement in violent crimes such as robbery, break-ins and snatch theft.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said 38 men and three women, aged between 22 and 45, were detained in the large-scale operation.

“We found various equipment believed to be used for those crimes, including several axes and parangs,” he told reporters at the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters here yesterday.

Among the items recovered by police from the criminal activities were two laptops, a camera, a mobile phone, a watch and cash.

He said the illegal immigrants might have been involved in at least 50 criminal cases and were remanded to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
