Jobless duo deny stealing

KOTA KINABALU: Two local jobless men are liable to a jail term of up to seven years and a fine or both if found guilty of separate theft charges.

Awang Salamat Eton @ Etoh, 27, and Sarulla Mohd Hading, 25, yesterday pleaded not guilty before magistrate Cindy Mc Juce to their respective charges each under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Awang is accused of stealing a handbag belonging to Mariah Ahmad from a car which was parked in front of CIMB Bank here at 3.50pm on Sept 28.

Prosecuting officer Ismail Mohamad Razali told the court that the handbag contained Mariah’s MyKad, her kid’s MyKad, four hand phones, cash and ATM cards altogether worth RM3,500.

Meanwhile, Sarulla allegedly stole Norshereen Meran’s handphone at an entertainment premises in Jalan Litas, Luyang at 3am on Oct 1, this year.

Cindy set Dec 16 and 21 this year for the trial of Awang and Sarulla respectively and allowed them to be released on RM3,000 bail, to be deposited with two local sureties pending the disposal of the case.

In an unrelated case, two Filipinos and four local men were charged with separate drug consumption and possession charges.

Osman Jinik, 32, was jailed for a total of seven months after he pleaded guilty to possessing and taking drugs.

For the first charge, he was jailed for four months for possessing 0.02 gram of syabu in the City here on August 2, while for the second charge of consuming the drug, he received another three months.

Osman was arrested at Kota Kinabalu police station here on the same day after his urine tested positive for the drug.

Cindy ordered Osman’s jail terms to run concurrently and also placed him on two years police supervision after completing the custodial sentence.

Filipinos Jummad Sarail, 35, and Yasser Omar, 28 pleaded guilty to possessing 0.1 gram and 0.15 gram of syabu respectively at Likas and Menggatal on Oct 3, this year.

The duo also pleaded guilty to their second charge of taking syabu at Kota Kinabalu police station on Oct 3 this year.

However, the magistrate set Dec 6, this year for re-mention of the cases pending the chemist’s report on the drug and the outcome of their urine analysis.

Cindy ordered Jummad and Yasser to be detained in custody pending the disposal of the cases.

Meanwhile, Jensen Bay Muhd Matheus, 24, Separ @ Aspar Tahar, 45, and Ishak Salehuddin, 42, pleaded guilty to separate drug consumption charges.

The magistrate put off to Nov 8, this year for re-mention of the cases as the chemist’s report on their urine sample was  not ready yet.

Jensen and Separ were arrested in Kota Kinabalu police station on Oct 1 while Ishak was arrested at Menggatal police station on the same day.

They were released on RM1,500 bail each, to be deposited with two local sureties.
