LAHAD DATU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has been asked to stop making accusation that the government was destroying houses  in several villages in this area to make way for a development project.

Lahad Datu assemblyman Datuk Haji Datu Nasrun Haji Datu Mansur said the allegation was untrue and totally baseless because the government had never neglected the needs and welfare of the people in Lahad Datu.

He said residents in several villages, such as in Panji and Puyut were given  better accommodation and comfort in the PPR (Public Housing Project) houses located at Jalan Tengah Nipah, and part of their compensation was given by the developers involved.

“At Kampung Burung, only some houses were demolished because they were built on private land.

However, the government also helped them by offering a new settlement at one of the PPR projects,” he said.

He said this when asked to comment on a  SAPP press statement yesterday, where it said many people in several villages here had lost shelter when their homes were demolished by the BN government to make way for development projects.

The assistant minister to the Chief Minister also said the BN government was always concerned and tried to improve the lives of the people in terms of facilities, including shelter and housing so that people living in slum areas were given better homes.

“We hope no party would distort  facts that could invite confusion on the government’s actions,” he said.

At the same time, he also asked the people not to be influenced by rumours and if they had questions, they should contact the relevant authorities to get a clearer picture of what was happening.
