KUCHING: The 1Malaysia Broadband Carnival, one of key ground activities within the National Broadband Awareness and Promotions programme, will be staged here this weekend before proceeding to Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Terengganu.

This October 30 to 31, the carnival will be set up here at Padang Merdeka, while for the next two weekends it will be held at Padang Merdeka in Kota Kinabalu, and Pulau Warisan in Kuala Terengganu, respectively.

The carnival promises fun-filled and interactive activities for the public; at the same time aiming to increase the understanding and awareness on the broadband usage, more specifically amongst folks residing outside major city centres.

The National Broadband Awareness and Promotions programme is part of the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture’s efforts to raise the awareness and usage of broadband and ICT applications in the country. In particular, the programme aims to communicate with students, parents, rural folks as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) based in the semi-urban and rural areas.

A whole host of exhibitors will be participating, all gearing up towards aiding the ministry to generate high visibility and keen interest on broadband. Various online games like Fifa Online 2, Star Craft 2 and e-learning offerings – along with hands-on guidance from trained experts, particularly at the World Wide Web Workshops – are set to thrill both children and adults alike.

Telecommunications providers such as TM, Maxis, Celcom Axiata, DiGi and many others, alongside Internet service providers, content developers, ICT business partners and related government agencies will also be contributing their respective services here at the carnival. The public are welcome to come to the carnival and gain information on the world of broadband.
