KUALA LUMPUR: The US Embassy here and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State are inviting applications from local undergraduates to attend a four-week study tour of the United States.

The Study of the US Institute (SUSI) for Student Leaders on Global Environmental Issues is hosted by the East-West Centre in Honolulu, Hawaii, the embassy said in a statement.

“The four-week academic residency will consist of a balanced series of seminars, discussions, readings, group presentations and lectures,” it said.

The academic residency will be complemented by a four-day educational tour that will take participants to San Francisco, California, where they will meet with local, state, private and non-profit organisations working in the field.

The study will conclude with a three-day programme in Washington.

The embassy said participants were expected to be highly motivated and exemplary Malaysian undergraduates aged between 18 and 25 from colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning.

“While all candidates will have a strong interest in the environment, their fields of study might vary and can include disciplines such as Agriculture, Biology, Ecotourism, Engineering, Environmental Law, Environmental Science, International Affairs, Public Policy, Sustainable Development and others,” it said.

The deadline for applications is Dec 15 and the programme details and electronic application forms can be viewed and downloaded from http://malaysia.usembassy.gov, the statement said.
