MIRI: A Form 4 student claimed he was assaulted by a senior school mate and group of students in an unlit hostel room at SMK Subis on Thursday night.

No reason was given for the attack.

In his report lodged at Batu Niah police station on Saturday morning, Ricky Mackline Edwin, 16, said he was assaulted by a Form 5 student in a hostel room followed by a group of students who knocked him to the floor.

Ricky told The Borneo Post yesterday that the incident occurred after his return with a group of students from visiting a school in Miri by chartered bus.

On reaching SMK Subis before 11pm, he entered the hostel room as he was tired after the trip.

A Form 1 student in the room told him a senior student wanted to see him.

He was brought to another room where a senior student was waiting.

“I was helpless when the senior pulled my shirt and punched me between the neck and the head,” he disclosed.

After that, a group of students punched, kicked and hit him until he fell to the ground.

“I don’t know how many of them but I believed they were many as I was covering my face with both my hands,” he added.

The 16-year-old was rescued by a prefect staying in the next dormitory.

The senior warned him not to report the incident to the teacher or he would be a ‘dead goat’ but he told the warden, a teacher.

The teacher brought him to his cousin’s house in Batu Niah bazaar for safety and to be treated at Batu Niah clinic.

The next day, his cousin informed his father, a field supervisor with an oil palm company in Suai.

Edwin Sanyam, 38, was shocked by the incident and brought his son to Bintulu Hospital for treatment.

“As a parent, I hope the school authority can look into the interest of students living at the dormitory,” he said, blaming the incident on the lack of security at the hostel.

Edwin wants the school authority and police to investigate and ensure it would not happen again.

He was told by the police in Batu Niah that action could not be taken against the students as they were underaged.

He met the assistant principal who told him to leave the matter to the police to investigate.

SMK Subis principal was unavailable for comment since it was a Sunday.
