Four convicted of taking Syabu

LAHAD DATU: Two local men and two foreigners were yesterday convicted by the magistrates’ court for taking Syabu.

Local Tai Chun Ket, 32, and Aris Bin Husin, 36, were fined RM1,500 each, in default, three months’ jail after they pleaded guilty to taking Syabu at Taman CL Jalan Asam and Kampung Sarip Jalan Silam on Oct 6 and 7.

Magistrate Amir Shah Amir Hassan convicted the two accused under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and ordered them to be under police supervision for two years after serving their sentence.

Foreigners Norminah Binti Nordin, 22, and Abdul San Bin Abu Bakar, 36, were fined RM1,500 each, in default, one and three months’ jail after they pleaded guilty to taking syabu at Lahad Datu town area and Kampung Sarip Jalan Silam on Oct 6.

Amir convicted Norminah and Abdul San under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or two years’ jail, or both, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Suryani Zakaria told the court that Tai, Aris, Norminah and Abdul San were arrested at the Lahad Datu police station after their urine samples tested positive for syabu.

The magistrate also ordered Norminah and Abdul San to be sent to the Immigration Department after serving their sentence.
