MIRI: Miri Table Tennis Association (MTTA) has achieved its target of contributing the most players – seven in all — in the state for the 23rd Malaysia MILO Hopes Table Tennis Championship 2010 in Labuan.

MIRIAN TALENTS: Lo (centre, back row) with the young Miri team and officials.

They are Foo Wui Jia, Angel Chan Low Yung and Catherine Chan Zhe Yen from SJK (C) Chung Hua Miri and Carmen Yiek Leh Xion from SJK (C) Chung San, Riam, for U-13 girls; Sii Hoe Hong and Fernando Joseph Yiek Chin Lun from SJK (C) Chung San, Riam for U-10 boys, and Foo Wui Ying from SJK (C) Chung Hua Miri, for U-10 girls.

This is the biggest number of players from the association since the championship was inaugurated in the late 1980s, according to MTTA vice president Lo Su Onn, who is one of the officials accompanying the state team to the Labuan meet from Nov 22 to 25.

However, he conceded Kuching continued to dominate the boys’ U-13 and U-10 categories with their main players selected for these age groups.

Recently, MTTA sent 16 boys and girls in the U-13 and U-10 categories for selection trials in Kuching.

They were led by the association’s vice chairman and coach Tan Wee Foo.

Their China coach, Wu Wen, and general affairs officer, David Chan also accompanied the team.
