KUDAT: Women are advised to be proactive and equipped themselves with knowledge on opportunities available in the state to progress to greater heights.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman in making the call said that although women have the ability and capability to progress in any field, they must also continue to work hard to improve skills and knowledge to sustain in the industry.

“Women must take the initiative to find out more about the various government programmes, including the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC), so that they would not be left behind.

“We cannot deny the capabilities and abilities of women. Their contribution through participation and involvement in various economic, social and political sectors have contributed to the state and nation’s progress and prosperity,” said Musa when launching the Sabah Level Women’s Day celebration held at the Tun Mustapha Hall, here, yesterday.

He said the state government will continue to recognise women’s role and contributions in driving the nation’s development.

Musa said the event itself proves that the government recognises the achievements and progress of women in various fields.

“And the recent Barisan Nasional victory in the Batu Sapi by-election through our woman candidate Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin shows that women are given the trust and recognition as we now have more women representatives in the Parliament. This success is also due to the commitment and the high spirit and strong determination of all parties, including women,” he said.

He noted that this year’s theme ‘1Azam Wanita 1Malaysia’ (1Determination Women 1Malaysia) is aptly chosen and should be practised in order to inject spirit among the women to continue to progress.

“Determination, initiative, persistence and a strong spirit are needed in particular to execute the state and nation’s development agenda and policies for the good of the people as a whole.

“The government has introduced a number of important national agendas. Among them are the  Government Transformation Plan (GTP), the New Economic Model (NEM), the Economic Transformation Plan (ETP) and the Tenth Malaysia Plan.

“All these must be understood and appreciated by the people to enable us to contribute to the success of transformation of the country and achieve a developed nation status and higher income nation, in line with the Vision 2020,” said Musa.
