KUCHING: Strong support from passionate advocators of Chinese education together with assistance from the government has again proven to be the best way in furthering the development of Chinese education in the state.
Such a relationship has helped in the completion of a new building block at SJK Chung Hua Batu 8, Jalan Batu Kitang here.

A fire on May 10, 2008 badly destroyed the school which was established in 1946.

After the fire, all the students were moved to SJK San Hap Hin in Kota Sentosa.

After two years of struggling with various challenges, the new school block was finally completed in August 2010.

The RM2-million project comprises a three-storey building and a covered basketball court.

At the official opening yesterday, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng praised the efforts of the school management board and members of the public in helping the school to realise the rebuilding project.

“These virtues deserve our respect and emulation. I’m confident that with this relationship in place, we are able to complete all new schools’ blocks for the benefits of teachers and students,” he said.

The Stampin MP had expressed his appreciation to the landowner who had donated a piece of land for the widening of the school’s compound extending the space for students’ extracurricular activities.

“Today (Nov 13), the magnificent school could continue its noble duties as an educational institution because of your strong support,” Yong said.

Currently, the school has 11 teachers and 150 students. It has six classrooms.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Environmental Affairs) Tan Joo Phoi, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch chairman Datuk Alfred Yap and the school headmistress Irene Yii were among those present during the function.
