The highest water level was about six feet deep, according to the villagers.

Telang Usan assemblyman Lihan Jok, who visited the affected areas by air on Sunday, said the government was monitoring the situation from time to time.

“Evacuation will be carried out if the situation worsens,” he told The Borneo Post over the phone yesterday.

He was asked whether there were any evacuation plan for the affected areas.

“It is not an easy task to impose evacuation in the areas as we need the victim’s acquiescence before we can evacuate them to temporary shelters,” Lihan explained.

He said the flood victims would be given assistance until the water receded to normal.

Meanwhile Baram District Officer Joseph Belayong when contacted yesterday said they had not received any report of flooding yet.

“Once we receive the reports, we will give the necessary assistance to the villagers,” he said.
