KUALA LUMPUR: A collection of Tenun Pahang (Pahang weaving), which includes personal pieces and exclusive designs from the Tengku Puan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, will be the main attractions of the National Museum’s Royal Pahang Weaving Exhibition here.

The exhibition, which began on Oct 26 and ends on Dec 31, also showcases designs by renowned fashion designer Datuk Bernard Chandran.

Themed ‘Bergaya dengan Tenun Pahang Diraja’ (Fashionable in Royal Pahang Weaving), the exhibition includes 18 collections of traditional tenun and 46 contemporary collections.

National Museum director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ismail said the exhibition, patronised by Azizah, showcased among others, 64 collections from the Pahang State Museum, Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation and fashion designers Salikin Sidek and Calvin Choo.

He told a news conference here yesterday that pieces from Chandran and the Tengku Puan Pahang would be displayed early next month to enable the public to appreciate and preserve the art.

He said the Tenun Pahang Diraja, originally called the Tenun Pahang, was a silk woven textile influenced by the Portuguese and consisted of various motifs and designs requiring a unique skill to produce.

Ibrahim said other activities held throughout the exhibition included sales of textile products, a batik and weaving demonstration and the two-day Kuala Lumpur Fashion Festival, beginning Nov 23. — Bernama
