Move to quit party was expected — Abdullah

KEPALA BATAS: The decision by the former chairman of the Federal Territory Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Datuk Zaid Ibrahim to quit the party had been expected, said former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“I’m not surprised. Even when he was in Umno previously and given the chance to become minister, he (Zaid) had suddenly decided to resign (from the cabinet),” he told reporters after opening the Sekolah Menengah Sains kepala Batas (SMSKB) Appreciation Day, here yesterday.

He said Zaid’s participation in the PKR was merely to go for a senior position and not to lead the party to become an effective and respected political party.

“He tried to go for a higher position but failed, subsequently he relinquished all positions and left the PKR.

If he had liked the PKR, he should have led the PKR but apparently, he did not like the PKR,” he said.

The local press Monday reported that Zaid had confirmed that he was leaving the PKR and thus solved the puzzle over his position in the party.

However, official notice about his decision had yet to be submitted to party headquarters. — Bernama
