KUALA LUMPUR: Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Deputy Secretary-General P Jenapala yesterday filed an originating summons seeking a court order declaring as invalid the election for the post of deputy president of the party.

He has also applied for an injunction to prevent PKR from declaring the candidate elected to the post.

Jenapala, 56, in the summons filed through lawyer Firoz Hussein of Messrs Hafarizam Wan & Aisha Mubarak at the Appellate and Special Powers Division registry in Jalan Duta here, also stated that he was eligible to contest the post on Nov 29 although is said to have been expelled from the party in 2008.

He named PKR President Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR Deputy President Dr Syed Husin Ali and PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail as the defendants.

He stated in the summons that the election was contrary to his rights as a life member of PKR, as he could contest the post.

Jenapala, who was PKR deputy secretary-general since early 2008 until his resignation by oral statement in December 2008, had stated his desire to contest the post on Sept 17 this year.

He said in the summons that a media statement issued by PKR Secretary-General Saifuddin Nasution Ismail on Sept 20 that he had been expelled from PKR was unfounded because his membership had been verified at the party headquarters on Sept 17.

He claimed that he was never informed by the party as to termination of his membership or any disciplinary action taken against him.

Jenapala is also seeking damages, interest at eight per cent per annum and costs and other relief deemed fit by the court. — Bernama
