SIBU: SMK Sacred Heart’s new building will enable it to have single session classes once it is completed.

Stating this yesterday was the Second Finance Minister and Minister of Environment and Public Health, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

He was speaking at the earth-breaking ceremony for the construction of a new building block for the school.

“Since the Seventh Malaysia Plan, each education minister talked about single session school but up till now we have not been able to fulfil that dream and perhaps SMK Sacred Heart could take the lead,” he said.

According to the principal Stephen Tan, once the new block is completed, the school will begin to run single session classes.

Wong also mentioned that the late Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew had great plans for the school, and most of the plans had been successfully implemented.

But similar plans for other schools have not been as smooth. Wong said SRK St Mary, for instance, had just begun its greater development projects.

Thus, he urged all people to work together to fulfill the work of the late Robert Lau, whom he described as a great man with great heart, particularly for the Catholic mission schools.

For his part, Wong said he would help find other solutions to come out with RM100,000 for the school’s development.

Board of Management chairman His Lordship Rt Rev Bishop Dominic Su, secretary Dr Gregory Hii, Lau Swee Nguong of Hua Seng Group, the school’s Re-Development Committee chairman Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming were among those present.
