KOTA KINABALU: Those involved in the agricultural and agro-based industries have been urged to equip themselves with up-to-date knowledge and the latest technology to stay competitive, especially in the global market.

Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Yahya Hussin when making the call yesterday added that it was important as the country has entered a more innovative phase in producing modern agricultural tools and products to improve productivity.

“The ministry is also sensitive towards technological development and various programmes have been and will be implemented to improve the state of agriculture and agro-based industries so that everyone will benefit from them,” said Yahya.

He was speaking when launching the Farmers, Fishermen and Livestock Breeders Convention.

He expressed the belief that the event would also be the best avenue to exchange views and ideas, as well as to learn problems faced by them.

“The convention is one of the ways to enhance the delivery system.

It is possible through sharing expertise and experiences with those who have succeeded in the industry,” he said.

Yahya added the convention would also meet the needs of the farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen while they formulated an agenda to ensure the industry would grow and reach greater heights.

Six working papers were presented in the one-day convention which was participated by nearly 150 people coming from all over the state.
