Three in family die in Bintulu road accident

BINTULU: Three victims, believed to be from the same family, died  in a horrific  accident at KM40 Bintulu-Miri Coastal Road, about 1.30pm yesterday.

The victims, Sabarudin Sait, 33, Sawilah Abdullah, 59, and Nur Salmah Abdullah, 11 died on the spot.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Sulaiman Abdul Razak said the police were investigating the relationship of the three victims.

The bodies are now at Bintulu Hospital.

The mishap occurred when the Perodua MyVi was involved in a collision with an oncoming 4X4, a Totoya Land Cruiser.

All the five passengers inside the 4X4 vehicle suffered only slight injuries.

The passengers inside the 4X4 were on their way to Miri, to attend the World Federation of Foochow Associations 20th anniversary function.

The accident happened when the MyVi was on its way from Miri to Bintulu, while the 4×4 vehicle from Sibu to Miri.

When met at the scene, the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser claimed that one of the front tyres (wheel) of the MyVi had detached, prior to the accident.

“In a distance of about 50 metres, I saw that one of the front tyres detached and the car swerved to the opposite lane.

He further claimed that he could not avoid the victims’ car, saying that the incident happened too fast.

As a result of the accident, the 4X4 vehicle landed in the drain.
