THIRTY-FOUR of the 76 applications from cooperatives to become wholesale cooperatives have been approved up to Tuesday, the Dewan Rakyat was told yesterday.

Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Tan Lian Hoe said 11 of the applications were rejected while the remaining 31 were being scrutinised to ensure that they would be able to distribute controlled items.

She said the criteria considered included the cooperative’s financial position, basic business, and transportation and storage facilities.

“We need to ensure that the cooperatives interested to become wholesale cooperatives have strong cashflow and a good track record to ensure that there will be no problem concerning capital.”

She said this in reply to Matulidi Jusoh (BN-Dungun) who had wanted to know the development of the one wholesale cooperative for one parliamentary constituency programme. — Bernama
