Eatery with dirty toilet shut down

KOTA KINABALU: The City Hall yesterday closed down a restaurant at Lintas Square after its operator failed to keep the toilet clean and in working condition.

City Hall Public Health Division head Danny Kok said the toilet’s water cistern was broken and could not discharge water.

The restaurant was closed down and ordered to conduct cleaning and repair works, he said.

Danny said the City Hall had to resort to such stern action in the interest of the public and the image of the city.

He said that so much effort has been made under the ‘Clean Toilet Campaign’ and also the toilet rating exercise, but the message still fell on deaf ears and some eateries failed to give their full cooperation.

He said the City Hall environmental health officers have been instructed to recheck eateries which obtained a low toilet rating and if they failed to improve, City Hall would have no choice but to close them down for cleaning and repair.

He further warned that even Grade A eateries can be closed down if their toilets were found to be dirty and malfunctioning during the checking.

Danny advised all eateries to improve the cleanliness of their toilets and also thanked those who have been cooperating with City Hall by upgrading their toilets and obtaining good toilet rating.
