KUCHING: A construction worker died late Friday evening after being run over by a mobile crane at Jalan Lapangan Terbang while on the way home from work.
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Davidson Tony from Kampung Baru Mawang in Serian.
The incident happened around 6.30pm when Davidson and a male cousin were riding a motorcycle back to Siburan after work.
A mobile crane behind the pair was said to have struck the rear of their motorcycle, the impact causing the cousin riding pillion to be thrown from the bike-landing on the roadside.
Davidson fell in front of the heavy vehicle and was run over by one of its tyres. He died on the spot.
His cousin sustained light injuries and received outpatient treatment at Sarawak General Hospital.
District traffic police personnel investigated the collision, and detained the crane driver for questioning.
