LAHAD DATU: The Sabah Labour Department, in collaboration with the district Labour Department here, organised a job placement programme yesterday.

The programme was launched by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur and aimed to help job seekers obtain employment and assist employers to fill vacancies in their companies.

Nasrun, who is also the assemblyman for Lahad Datu, said the programme was very beneficial and could reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

The programme also provided exposure to job seekers on new careers and assisted employers to find workers easily.

“The government is concerned with the needs of the people and various efforts had been made to help the people and also achieve the vision of an electronic government. And this programme is one of those efforts.

“In an effort to achieve the government’s vision as an electronic government, the ministry of human resources had created a system called JobsMalaysia,” he said.

This system aims to improve facilities and access to quality services through information technology (IT) and online as well as enhance the mobilisation of labour which is optimised through the systematic matching of job seekers and job vacancies.

“In line with the government’s policy that requires the participation of all communities in the employment sector, the disabled and single mothers should also be given the opportunity to improve their living standards.

“In this context, the Labour Department should be proactive to alert people with disabilities, employers and the community that involvement of the disabled and single mothers in the work sector can be fully realised,” he added.

He also hoped the Labour Department would remain committed to working with the relevant parties to generate momentum towards quality improvement and effective delivery of services that could be enjoyed by the target groups.

Meanwhile, the deputy director of the Sabah Labour Department Enchana Atto said this programme received overwhelming response and cooperation from people around this district.

“Various companies from various sectors were involved in this programme and 581 job vacancies were offered. The Labour Department also held an exhibition to provide information to the visitors,” he said. Among the companies that participated in the programme were Kwantas And Ferdeco group of companies, Servay Hypermarket, GCH Retail, Genting Plantation, and Dairy Farms.

Meanwhile, the human resources manager of Servay Hypermarket Tan Han Boon said this programme was useful as it was able to help them fill vacancies in their companies.

“Our main focus is Lahad Datu and about 250 vacancies exist for a hypermarket to be opened here soon. However, there are other job vacancies in other areas if there are visitors who are interested,” he said.

“This is the first time we have worked with the Labour Department in this programme and we hope this cooperation will continue in the future,” he added.

Also present at the ceremony were the representative of the District Officer Jamiludin Hj Taha, assistant director of Labour Department Lahad Datu Rusdi Bustami and Labour Department Senior Assistant Director of Employment Services Unit, Headquarters, Othman Abdullah.
