PUTRAJAYA: Pledge your signature if you are all for making the Serama chicken into a national icon.

Although this Bantam breed of chicken may be too expensive to own, the Malaysian Serama is not only popular with locals but also abroad and should be promoted as a national heritage treasure.

Through the One Million Signatures of Malaysians campaign carried out by the National Federation of World Serama Organisation (PASSM), each member of the public can support the move to make the Serama chicken as a national iconic bird.

“We urge Malaysians to support this campaign which targets one million signatures among Malaysians by mid-2011,” PASSM patron Datuk Hasan Malek told Bernama recently.

Hasan, who is also Rural and Regional Development Deputy Minister, said efforts to collect signatures started last Friday during the MAHA International 2010 and will run for six months. — Bernama
