KUCHING: UCSI University reinforced its position as a leading institute of tertiary education by announcing its platinum sponsorship for The Borneo Post International Education Fair 2011 in a brief handover ceremony at the university’s Sarawak Campus yesterday.

“UCSI recognises the importance of having informed choices of education and matching students to their programmes of choice and interest,” said chief operations officer Lu Huong Ying at the conclusion of the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony between UCSI and The Borneo Post.

As it is UCSI’s second year in a row as the sole platinum sponsor for BPIEF, UCSI would be upping its sponsorship pledge to RM300,000, two-thirds of which will be parked under the Borneo Post Education Fund (BPEF) to enhance the region’s education standards, Lu revealed.

“We will be contributing to the event in numerous ways – apart from cash, we are also pledging scholarships to deserving students, free gifts, career counselling and more,” she said, adding that all these contributions would fulfill the university’s corporate social responsibility by providing students the means of picking the tertiary institutions of their choice.

“It will be contrary to the earlier days when many enthusiastic scholars were either misled or mismatched with programmes, many not even on their list of choices,” she stated.

UCSI has worked closely with The Borneo Post’s sister company, Utusan Borneo in creating awareness on the importance of education among Sarawak’s indigenous folk.

“We also hope to create an even wider understanding of the value of good education through our partnership with The Borneo Post.”

The second edition of BPIEF to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching from Feb 19-20, 2011, will feature over 80 public and private education providers from all over the world.

This exclusive event will be a platform for students and parents to explore quality undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, equipping them with the best knowledge and skills to pursue their careers.

A wide-ranging programme of events and seminars on educational development opportunities will be offered throughout the BPIEF, featuring specialists in their field.
