Balang: NCR land no longer an election issue

MIRI: The opposition would not be able to harp on NCR land issue in the upcoming election as the government has fulfilled its promise by gazetting NCR land in stages, said Ba Kelalan assemblyman Nelson Balang.

This was part of the BN government’s efforts to ensure the people’s land were safeguarded, he added.

“The people should be grateful to the government for its concern for their interest,” Balang told The Borneo Post here yesterday after returning from Ba Kelalan where he oversaw the parameter survey conducted by Land and Survey Department at two areas there.

The two areas, in Banganga, Trusan and Kampung Sahabat Baru in Lawas, are among 27 areas being surveyed in the state. In Banganga, it takes surveyors 20 days to complete the job.

The parameter survey is done free for the people to gazette their NCR land, Balang said.

“I hope the people of Ba Kelalan would not be easily influenced by the opposition bringing up the NCR land issues for their own political agenda in the next election,” he added.

The assemblyman also urged affected landowners to cooperate with the Land and Survey Department to stake their claims and conduct parameter survey on their land.

Landowners whose land had not been surveyed  should be patient as the government was spending RM60 million for the NCR parameter survey throughout the state, he said.

The survey is ongoing until 2012.
