KAPIT: Police arrested two young teenagers at Kapit Wharf on Sunday morning for alleged involvement in a housebreaking spree over the past two weeks.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Michael Jackson, 14, and Marvin Jalong, 13, both from Sibu around 11am.
Kapit Criminal Investigation Department head ASP Chiew Swoi Kee said the duo was believed to be involved in a young gang of housebreakers, which also involves locals Karen, 14, Gawai Julok, 14, Muja Jelaian, 16, Danai Jnag, 14, and Bek Jenang, 13.
During a press conference on Monday, Chiew said police had first gone to a local hotel where the suspects were believed to be staying.
“However, upon checking at the hotel, they found the suspects had left. Sensing that the suspects were making an escape to Sibu, we later went over to the Kapit wharf and arrested two of the suspects,” he said.
Among the stolen items recovered from the two were a DVD player and handphone, believed stolen from housing areas in Bleteh, where the series of housebreakings occurred.
Chiew said those who know the whereabouts of the suspects still at large should contact him at 013-8023998 or Sergeant Getah Untam at 013-8261228.
They can also call Kapit police station on 084-796222.
With the arrest of the suspects, Chiew said he believed police would be able to solve the series of housebreakings in Bleteh.
