M’sian surgeon faces charges over prostitute’s death

MELBOURNE: A prostitute who died after a drug-fuelled sex session at the home of a Sydney-based Malaysian neurosurgeon recorded one of the highest levels of cocaine toxicity ever seen by a forensic specialist, a court in Sydney was told.

Victoria McIntyre, 23, died in February last year at a Sydney apartment after she was hired by Suresh Surendranath Nair, the Australian Associated Press (AAP) reports.

The 42-year-old doctor is charged with her manslaughter and the murder of escort Suellen Domingues-Zaupa in November last year.

A committal hearing for Nair at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court was told he supplied cocaine to both women, leading to their deaths.

Police forensic specialist Dr William Allender Thursday confirmed autopsy findings that “the extremely high levels of cocaine toxicity in (McIntyre’s) blood most likely led to her death”.

The deceased, described in court as having been beautiful and petite, was found to have 7.1mg of cocaine per litre of blood in her system at the time of death.

Test results showed Domingues-Zaupa had 4.9mg of cocaine per litre of blood.

“This is probably one of the highest levels of cocaine I’ve seen,” Dr Allender is quoted by AAP as saying.

A string of prostitutes who were Nair’s clients have given evidence that upon arrival at his home, he would greet them with a plate of cocaine and urge them to ‘get coked up’.

Other prostitutes present on the night McIntyre was called to Nair’s apartment said he had put ‘rocks’ of cocaine inside her, where the drug could be rapidly absorbed.

Magistrate Carolyn Barkell adjourned the case to Dec 23. — Bernama
