24-year-old man dies when car crashes into drain in Bau

KUCHING: A 24-year-old man succumbed to injuries in an accident that occurred in Bau near here at about 10pm Saturday.

He was sending a 17-year-old passenger to Bau when his car went out of control and crashed into a concrete drain.

The impact caused the vehicle to break into two.

The driver died while his passenger sustained severe injuries.

A source pointed out that an uncle of the deceased happened to pass by the scene and had the duo sent to Bau Hospital. Due to severe injuries, the duo were rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

Paramedical personnel attempted for hours to stabilise the condition of the 24-year-old who worked as a construction worker.

The attempt failed and he breathed his last at about 4am yesterday.

He leaves behind his wife and two children.

In an unrelated accident, a motorbike ran into an elderly man.

The collision took place near a shopping mall at about 8am yesterday when the 75-year-old was crossing the road. According to a source, the man was on his way home when the two-wheeled machine knocked him down.
