KUCHING: A magistrates’ court in Serian yesterday fixed Feb 16 and 17 for the trial hearing of self-declared NCR defender Numpang Suntai after he claimed innocence to criminal intimidation.

Allegedly claiming to defend landowners’ rights in Sebangan and Sebuyau areas, Numpang was accused to have intimidated representatives of a company on Oct 18 this year.

Villagers on the other hand claimed that the company had encroached into their native customary land (or NCR land) for some logging activities.

Numpang was also among seven people including village headmen arrested to assist police probe cases of alleged arson and criminal damage to property.

Yesterday Numpang was defended by counsels Baru Bian, See Chee How and Desmond Koh.

He is now released on RM5,000 bail in two sureties pending the trial hearing.
