The two, on a motorcycle, faked an accident around 10.45am in Channel Road and blamed a 60-year-old woman for it, allegedly wielding their helmets to intimidate the woman to compensate them for the accident.

Suddenly, one of them snapped at her necklace and they both hopped onto their machine and tried to speed off, however members of the public jumped on them and a few of them gave the two men, aged 41 and 42, a good punching.

An onlooker told the Borneo Post later that the duo pleaded to a Rela officer there, to stop the public beating them.

The incident drew such a big crowd that the arrival of the police was impeded.

A few Rela personnel

and municipal council’s enforcement officers took a rickshaw to ‘transport’ the two suspects to the police vehicle, waiting at Workshop Road.

The necklace that the suspects snatched was later returned to its rightful owner. She lodged a police report.
