KOTA KINABALU: A 61-year-old woman wanted to commit suicide after her daughter ran away with her boyfriend.

The police and fire and rescue personnel managed to prevent her from jumping off the window of her living quarter on the third floor of a building in Luyang here yesterday.
The woman and her daughter are from Sandakan. They moved into the unit with her daughter’s boyfriend two months ago.
When the police and fire personnel broke into the house, the old lady was pointing a knife at her stomach and threatened the officers to stay away from her.
As the police tried to calm her, she said that her daughter had run away with her boyfriend. She pleaded the police to find her.
The police and fire personnel managed to seize the knife from the lady. She was later taken to Bukit Padang Hospital.
It was said that the woman’s daughter and her boyfriend had gone out and locked the unit from the outside. The police had to cut the padlock to enter the living quarter of the workers of a restaurant.
Shiela Augustine, 21, who is living next door, said she heard the woman crying around 10am and saying that her daughter had run away with her boyfriend.
An hour later, the woman made her way to the window in the kitchen.
According to Shiela, she often heard the woman arguing with her daughter, who is believed to be in her 20s.
“Police were once called in to resolve their arguments in November,” she said.
Shiela added the woman’s boyfriend, who is in his 30s, worked at the restaurant downstairs, while her daughter took care of his two children.
