Youth pleads not guilty to drug charges

KUCHING: A 19-year-old shop assistant pleaded not guilty in a magistrates’ court to two drug charges yesterday.

Ceyril Ting Huong Ing appeared before magistrate Atiqah Abdul Karim who released him on bail with two local sureties pending hearing trial on Jan 27 next year.

Ting was alleged to have in his possession 0.05g Nimetazepam and 0.41g Methamphetamine in a house at Sungai Tapang in Kota Sentosa about 10pm on Dec 16.

The offence comes under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a jail term of not more than five years and/or fine.

Inspector Khairol Haron prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.

In the same court room, an 18-year-old youth pleaded guilty to stealing a motorbike at Matang Jaya about 3am on Dec 19.  The accused released on bail with his parents as sureties pending probation report and sentencing on Jan 27 next year.
