Grading competition attracts 41 shuttlers

KUCHING: Fourty one shuttlers took part in the Second In-house Badminton Grading Competition 2010 held at Arena Sukan on Dec 20 to 21.

BRIMMING WITH CONFIDENCE: The junior shuttlers pose with their medals and certificates at Arena Sukan after the conclusion of the two-day grading competition.

Held for the second year, the grading competition is a platform to identify budding badminton players, thereby increasing the pool of shuttlers for the state.

For the girls singles grade C, Felicia Chang Wui Jia topped the mark and was crowned the champion of the category followed by Celine Loh in second while the third place was won by Claudia Sim and Yuki Chin in fourth.

In the boys single grade B, Brian Kho was the champion followed in second place by Ho Zong Chieng while the third and fourth placing went to Andy Vong and Ho Zong Xuan respectively.

In the doubles event (Grade B), Brian Kho once again took the crown, this time partnering Dickson Chan.

In second place was Ho Zong Xuan/Goldwin Tang while the third placing went to Andy Vong/ Phua Yu Chin.

In fourth place of the category was the partnership of Malvin Tay/Eric Tay.

In the boy singles Grade C, Kelvin Lee stole the show, being the champion while Deririck Kho came in second followed by Joshua Dobby in third as Aaron Thian took the fourth place.

In the doubles event of the Grade C category, Joshua Dobby improved his standings by taking home the championship title together with his partner, Aaron Thian.

Second was the singles’ champion, Kelvin Lee and Derrick Kho.

In third place were Jason/Malvin while the fourth place went to the partnership of Daniel and Kenneth Lee.

In the boy singles Grade D category, Nicholas Tan outshone the other shuttlers by taking home the champions title followed by Raymond Lee Kian Wei.

In third place was Chan Jun Sing followed by Luis Chin in fourth.

In the combined singles Grade A category, Felix Jong took the championship title followed by Lee Wan Hui in second.

In third place was Adrian Lim followed by Dick Chan in fourth.

Taking the limelight in the combined double Grade A was Felix Jong who partnered Adrian Lim for the title.

In second place was Arina Kho/Dick Chan whereas the third place was won by Lee Wan Hui/Linda Ngu combination.

The last place on the podium was however taken by Gregory Chin/Victor Yong.

Meanwhile, the in-house badminton coaching by Arena Sukan is conducted for shuttlers above seven years old to be put under the guidance of experienced coach, Johnny Ng who conducts trainings on Tuesdays and Thursdays (4.30pm – 6.30pm) and Saturday (2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9pm).
