KUALA LUMPUR: The National Service Training Department (JLKN) will discuss the reproductive health and social module (PKRS) with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry.

Director-general Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang Kechil said it will also discuss with agencies involved in creating sub-modules like National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the police (PDRM) to avoid duplication.

“I will be meeting them soon. The modules must be suitable for national service (PLKN) trainees,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday said that PKRS module to be introduced to trainees in May will educate them on social ills.

Hadi said PKRS is not a sex education module but one that stresses on mental and physical strength.

Meanwhile, obstetrics and gynaecology consultant Assoc Prof Dr Harlina Halizah Siraj hopes that PKRS module will stress on cognitive, emotional, social and spiritual aspects.

“I hope that the module will create youths with good manners and high morals and educate them to avoid adultery,” said the senior lecturer at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Hospital.

Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs (MAYC) president Akhramsyah Muamar Ubaidah Sanusi said PKRS module should be made optional and not compulsory.

He said this was because some parents were sensitive to moral issues as it showed that they had failed as parents.

“Implementation is important as poor execution can be seen as teaching rather than preventing social ills among youths,” he added.

Parent Action Group for Education (Page) chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim urged parents to encourage their children to follow the module.

“The topic is very sensitive and parents find it hard to dicusss it with their children. Don’t let it go to waste,” she added. — Bernama
