KUCHING: Only 12 teams will be invited to take part in the annual Kuching League 2011 expected to kick off on Feb 12.

SET FOR FEBRUARY KICK OFF: Rakawi (left) hands over the Kuching League fixture to Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) vice president Razali Dolhan, witnessed by the organising committee.

Entries will be ‘assessed’ by the Kuching Division Football Association (KDFA) whose selection of the eventual 12 teams from the entries received will be final.

“We want new teams to take part – that’s why we are inviting them. All entries will be assessed so that only the top 12 sides will be picked to ensure quality for the competition,” KDFA president Rakawi Ibrahim said yesterday.

He disclosed that the entry fees had been increased from RM1,200 to RM2,000 to standardise them with the Samarahan League and other divisional leagues.

The champion will receive RM5,000, the runner-up, RM3,000 and the third team, RM1,000.

“Take note that for teams wishing take part, their coaches must have at least a Pre-C licence,” Rakawi said.

Teams must also field players who have resided in Kuching for at least six months. The league is expected to run for three months, depending on the number of teams.

The confirmed teams are DBKU, Sarawak Energy, Brooke Dockyard, Yayasan Sarawak, Land and Survey and Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM).
