KUCHING: Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek will meet Datuk Misbun Sidek and Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh ‘very soon’ to resolve the controversy surrounding the national singles badminton coach’s resignation.

The Youth and Sports Minister said he had already met Misbun at a dinner on Wednesday and heard his side of the story but would want to sit down with both Misbun and Mohd Nadzmi to resolve the matter.

“Maybe in another few days. I will be here for two more days and when I return to Kuala Lumpur, I will call for a meeting with both parties and hopefully, the matter can be resolved and things can get back to normal because the Malaysia Open Championship starts next week,” he said yesterday.

Mohd Nadzmi had met Ahmad Shabery in his office on Wednesday to request the ministry to help resolve the standoff that had cast a shadow on the badminton scene since Friday when Misbun tendered his resignation to BAM.

Misbun, a former national champion and coach of world number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei, did not give any reason for his decision to quit, leading to speculations that he is not happy with the way by BAM has treated him over the past couple of years.
