KUCHING: A young woman’s determination to pursue two snatch thieves to recover her jewellery ended with her and her friend being assaulted on Monday.
The 24-year-old victim and a female friend were taking a motorcycle ride in Semariang when they were approached from behind by two unknown men on a Honda bike around 4.30pm.
One of the men suddenly reached across and snatched her gold necklace, but found himself being held by the victim after she managed to grab on to his outstretched arm.
The thief then hurled verbal abuses at her and managed to relieve her of a gold bracelet as well, before breaking free of her grasp.
The two men attempted to speed away, but found themselves pursued by the victim and her friend until they were eventually forced to the side of the road not far away.
The victim told police she tried to confront the men, but was punched in the stomach by one of them, which caused her to fall to the ground.
Seeing what had happened, her friend came to her aid but was also knocked to the ground by the men, who then sped away from the scene.
A police report of the incident has been lodged and the case is being investigated.
