KUALA LUMPUR: National badminton head coach Rashid Sidek has no plans to follow his elder brother Datuk Misbun Sidek’s footsteps to walk out of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

Rashid said he was comfortable with BAM and hoped to continue his career as a coach in the BAM fold.

“The BAM has made a decision and we will wait for a reply from Misbun,” he told Bernama.

When asked of national singles ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei’s decision to follow Misbun, Rashid said whatever decision made by Chong Wei would be his own.

“Let him make the decision and whatever decision he makes will be his own. We will not try to influence or convince his decision,” said Rashid.

According to Rashid, Chong Wei was now performing consistently and mentally would not be affected by the Misbun issue (Misbun’s decision to not extend his contract with BAM that expired on Dec 31).

“Chong Wei is now even more inspired after the Super Series Masters Final win in Taiwan recently. Now his focus will be on the Malaysian Open where he will start as the defending champion,” he said. — Bernama
