KOTA KINABALU: Jesselton Wellness and Parkway Holdings Limited (Parkway) tonight signed a master collaboration agreement to set up a new premium private hospital in Sabah.

The tertiary care hospital, to be named Gleneagles Medical Centre Kota Kinabalu, positioned as one of the premium tertiary care hospitals under Parkway health.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun

Razak and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman at Perdana Park, Hone Place, near here.

Jesselton Wellness was represented by Warisan Harta chairman Datuk Ramlee Marahaban while Parkway was respresented by its chief executive officer and managing director Dr Tan See Leng.

Under the terms of the agreement, Parkway will lease as well as operate the

completed hospital building owned by Jesselton Wellness.

“This hospital is a component of a mixed integrated development that will be located next to Sutera Harbour in the southern extension of the city centre along the coastal highway.

“The entire development has an approximate gross development value (GDV) in excess of RM500 million. Gleneagles Medical Centre Kota Kinabalu will cost over RM200 million of the total GDV including cost for medical equipment,” said Ramlee in his remarks at the signing ceremony.

He said the hospital would be financed through a proposal to issue a RM200 million bond.

“Danajamin Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s first financial guarantee insurer, has made an offer to guarantee the bonds. With this guarantee, the proposed bonds will be wrapped by Danajamin’s AAA rating when issued,” he said.

Ramlee said the medical lanscape in Sabah right now was still limited in both options and capabilities.

He said Gleneagles Medical Centre Kota Kinabalu was a critical move to address the urgently rising demand and needs of the populace in the state.

Ramlee said the successful completion of the project would be another step towards the benchmarks set by the Chief Minister to develop Sabah.

Later, the Prime Minister launched the privately funded the RM50 million Perdana Park, a new landmark for Kota Kinabalu city.

The Perdana Park is the brainchild of the present Chief Minister in an effort to protect cultural heritage and boost tourism in the state. – Bernama
