SIBU: A 35-year-old woman was yesterday ordered by the Sessions Court to be jailed for five years after she pleaded guilty to drug possession.
Chuo Mee Lee was sentenced to five years’ jail for a charge under Section 6 of the 1952 Dangerous Drug Act (DDA), which is punishable under Section 39A2 of the same act.
The Section provides for a minimum jail term of five years or a life sentence.
The court also sentenced Chuo to six months’ jail for a charge under Section 12(2) of the same act.
The two sentences are to run concurrently.
The court was told that around 10.45am on April 23 last year, a police team led by Inspector Lee Beng Oui raided a house in Tun Abang Haji Openg Road and
found white powder in a packet believed to be Ketamine.
When Lee asked Chuo whether she kept something illegal in the room, she took a yellow jar from a wardrobe and gave it to him.
The jar contained 20 transparent packets filled with compressed dry foliage that weighed 389.65gm.
A chemist’s report confirmed that the contents of the jar were 325.16gm of cannabis while the white powder in the packet was 6.10gm Ketamine.
