KUALA LUMPUR: About 15,000 people thronged Dataran Merdeka here to witness a parade in conjunction with the 2011 Federal Territories Day.

The ceremony, declared open by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saw 86 contingents and 6,450 personnel from government departments, banks, schools, universities and the corporate sectors taking part in the parade.
According to a statement from the Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Ministry, representatives from businesses, voluntary and recreational bodies, resident’s associations and artistes also did their part for the celebrations.
The annual event also featured a parade of antique cars and high-powered motorcycles.
This year Kuala Lumpur turns 37, while Labuan is 27 and Putrajaya is 10 years old.
The Federal Territories Day is celebrated on Feb 1 annually. — Bernama
