BINTULU: A total of RM1.5 million worth of illegal logs were seized by Marine Police here while six persons – comprising two locals and four foreigners – were arrested.

ARE THEY LEGAL?: Marine Police enforcement officers inspect the logs.

The operation manned by eight personnel led by Sergeant Major Merom found that the tugboat and barge had no valid documents to export the logs.

Marine Police acting on public tip-off ambushed the tugboat and barge at Batang Anap in Kuala Tatau around 6.20pm Friday.

The case was later handed over to the Forestry Department for further action.

In a related development, Marine Police here issued six summonses mostly for offences under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance Act (MSO) and Sarawak River Ordinance Act (RSO) with one arrest as of January this year.
