Opposition chided for ‘false accusations’

BAU: Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Peter Nansian yesterday lambasted the opposition parties for spreading wild accusations to sabotage the Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said such ‘unsporting’ and ‘hitting below the belt’ tactics were now often used by the opposition to garner support because the next state election was very near.

“The opposition is obviously running out of ideas, and they attack the BN with whatever stories they can churn out so that they sabotage our chances of winning the election.

“But why should you listen? Such stories are ill-intended to make us look bad. It is already a fact that the BN is working hard to take care of the people, so there is no need to stop supporting the BN just because of some stories,” he added.

Nansian, who is Tasik Biru assemblyman and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) senior vice president, made these remarks at the minor rural project (MRP) funds presentation at Kampung Suba Bau yesterday.

On a related matter, he said he was not convinced that the opposition could win any rural seat in the next state election.

Despite the loud calls for change by the opposition, he said the rural folks still needed the BN for continuity of development, especially in terms of infrastructure and public amenities.

Under the 1Malaysia, he said there were now more emphasis and urgency to help Sarawak to catch up with the other states in terms of rural development.

“They may sound loud when talking about change to the people, but the people in the rural areas know that the opposition is not able to bring the changes they had talked about,” he said.

During the function, Nansian presented MRP grants totalling RM25,000 to six villages – Kampung Suba Bau, Suba Bandar, Suba Buan, Skiat Lama, Skiat Baru and Grogo.

He also announced that an allocation of RM25,000 would be given to Kampung Suba Bau for the village river cleaning and beautification works.

Temenggong Datu Stephen Jussem, Pemanca Daniel Teho and other community leaders were among those present.
