SIBU: Residents in the low-lying areas here were advised to take precaution in view of the current king tide.

INUNDATED: Punai Road in Bukit Assek area hit by flood yesterday.

Sibu Municipal Council councillor Chieng Buong Toon said the low-lying areas in Bukit Assek constituency were flooded, caused by the downpour on Monday night.

“But it was not serious as the water receded fast due to the improvement to the drainage system which has been more than 70 per cent completed,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He said work to complete the rest of the construction for the drainage system and continuation to upgrade the roads would begin after the Chinese New Year.

He expressed hope that in the next few days when the king tide sets in there would be no heavy rain.

Chieng cautioned that should there be heavy rain, residents in low-lying areas should be alert and make preparation to move to higher ground.

A random check at several places in the Bukit Assek area yesterday found that flooding was not serious.
