Court adjourns dangerous drug possession hearing pending further investigation

KUCHING: The hearing for the case of a 28-year-old former dockyard worker charged with possessing dangerous drugs had been adjourned pending further investigation by the prosecution.
Chong Joon Hong appeared before Magistrate Shafiza Abdul Razak Tready who fixed March 7 for further mention of the case.
No plea was recorded and the accused was ordered to be further detained in police custody.The adjournment was requested by the prosecution.
Chong allegedly possessed a total of 4,372.4g cannabis and 163.05g MDMA also known as ecstasy pills.
Both offences fall under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 which carries the death penalty if found guilty.
He allegedly committed the offence on Aug 15 last year, around 12.30 pm at a house in Batu Kawa.
The drugs were said to be found in the suspect’s bedroom during a raid mounted by a police party.
Chong was represented by counsel Shankar Ram while DPP Hasyutantee Khalil prosecuted.
