TAWAU: Community leaders in the state are urged to be proactive in planning and implementing programmes in their own constituencies.

Tanjung Batu assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat said the successful implementation of development by the government  depended on the credibility of the community leaders.

“Chairmen of village security and development committees (JKKKs) and village heads are the most important leaders to plan and implement programmes at the grassroots level.

“Any failure by the community leaders in planning and implementing programmes will cause the particular areas to lag behind in terms of development,” Hamisa said that at a ‘Majlis Kenduri Sekampung’ at Kampung Merotai here recently.

Hamisa added that various programmes must be implemented in a proactive way to fulfil the needs by the increasing number of villagers. She said it is the responsibility of the community leaders to identify the needs of the people in their own constituencies to ensure smooth management of development projects. She added it is important to update any information in the village, especially the list of hardcore poor.
