KUCHING: Sarawak will take on SDM Navy in the second home match of the Premier League at the State stadium at 4.15pm today.

HIGH HOPES: The Crocs going through their light training to prepare for today’s match against SDM Navy at the Sarawak stadium yesterday.

Lying third on the league tables with one win and one draw, the Crocs will play all out to acquire three points and be strong contenders to top the table.

“During the 3-3 draw against Harimau Muda B last Friday, we were not aggressive enough, we gave too much space to the opponents,” said Zaki Sheikh Ahmad, the state team coach, during  training yesterday.

He also said that first choice goalkeeper; Abdul Ghani Anuar was not fully fit for the match due to an injury he suffered during the friendlies last year.

Zamri Morshidi, the team captain who was substituted in the second half during the Harimau Muda B match according to Zaki will most likely be returning to the match today as he was fit for training since Saturday.

From the glaring weakness of the last four during the match against Harimau Muda B on Friday, Zaki said that videos of the last match would be further reviewed to find ways in improving their weaknesses.

“Somehow we cannot do abrupt changes to the squad occasionally. Instead we should sharpen each department and improve their game,” Zaki pointed out calmly.

Since the last match where Sarawak ended with a 3-3 draw, Zaki said that the team had given too much space to the young tigers who were nifty and had broad experience of local and international match exposure.

“We should not give too much space to the opponents. Only the best teams in the world will shut out the space and do not give any time for the opponents to find their footing,” said Zaki of the improvements which he hopes to carry out today.

“However this is the first time that we will be playing against SDM Navy and we should never underestimate the opponents,” said Zaki who believes that the Crocs will live up to the Ngap Sayot war yell and never give up till the final whistle as what was shown against Harimau Muda B in front of 7,000 spectators.

In the last match of SDM Navy, the squad lost to USM FC 3-2.
